I finally got around to watching the Glee Season 2 finale this weekend and was dismayed to hear that they brought back my least favorite aspect of the show: original songs. Especially following the Fleetwood Mac "Rumors" episode, which had some of the best song material of either season of Glee, it was jarring and unpleasant to be faced with the lazily written, uninspired, cheeseball original numbers in the finale.
I know they want to make extra money by owning all the rights to the songs that many 12-year-olds will buy on iTunes regardless of what the song is, but it seems cynical to me and the show is worse off for it.
What are you thoughts? Should they keep trying to write original songs for the show or stick to proven quality material?
